Leafy Suits for Squirrel and Small Game Hunting
Why concealment matters for small game
Squirrels spend the day watching for hawks, foxes and anything else that moves on the forest floor. When you sit at the base of a hickory or oak, they will often go quiet until they decide you are not a threat. A 3D leafy suit breaks up your outline so they get back to feeding sooner, and you get more shots.
A great first hunt for young hunters
Small game seasons are often warm and early, which makes them perfect for kids. The Youth Leafy Suit fits hunters up to 4 feet 10 inches tall, uses breathable No-See-Um mesh and includes a removable mosquito face mask for buggy early-season woods. See gear for young hunters.
What to wear
- Suit: the Adult Leafy Suit for most hunters, the Outfitter Series if you want pockets for shells and snacks.
- Face: a 3D leafy face mask or a light neck gaiter.
- Hands: leafy gloves for when you raise the gun.
Tips for squirrel woods
- Find the food. Look for cuttings under hickories, oaks and beech.
- Sit with a trunk behind you and wait 10 to 15 minutes after you settle in.
- Raise the gun slowly when the squirrel is behind the trunk or its head is turned.
- Match your pattern to the canopy: greens early, browns and grays after leaf drop.
Patterns for small game
Early season: Mossy Oak Obsession or Greenleaf. Late season: Realtree Timber or APX.
